Cupping Collective

Global calibration for coffee.

Identify value earlier.
Buy with more certainty.

Monthly calibration sets, with shared cupping & structured sensory data for coffee professionals across the supply chain.

Coffee is still bought on inconsistent calibration.

Different labs. Different references. Different expectations.

Most buyers calibrate after the market has already formed.

The result:

  • Missed opportunities
  • Mispriced coffees
  • Unnecessary risk

Cupping Collective introduces a shared global calibration process designed to align coffee professionals, before purchasing decisions are made.

A shared reference point for the global coffee industry.

Each month, participating labs receive a blind sample set of roasted coffees, sourced early in the season.

Blind labelling is designed to reduce:

  • Commercial bias
  • Origin preconceptions
  • Existing supplier relationships
  • Reputation-led scoring behaviour

…creating a more objective calibration reference point across the supply chain.

Every coffee is evaluated using the same framework:

  • SCA Cupping Protocol
  • Structured scoring
  • Intensity mapping
  • Descriptive profiling

Each subscription supports up to 5 users per lab, allowing teams to calibrate internally as well as against the wider network.

All cupping data is captured within the platform, and compared against both local and global averages.

What participants receive

Once sufficient data has been collected, participants gain access to:

Calibration benchmarking

  • Compare scores and descriptors within your own team
  • Compare against global participants
  • Compare against origin cuppers

Market context

  • Understand how coffees are being perceived across regions and markets
  • Identify where preferences diverge
  • Understand evolving profile trends

Sensory alignment

  • Identify descriptor drift
  • Review intensity variance
  • Understand calibration inconsistencies
  • Track emerging profile preferences

Why this matters

Coffee value is often identified too late.

Origin labs rarely have exposure to how coffees are being perceived globally, outside of their lab. Buyers often work within isolated calibration environments.

This creates inefficiencies throughout the supply chain:

  • Coffees become mispriced
  • Valuable profiles are overlooked
  • Producers miss opportunities
  • Buyers take unnecessary risk

Cupping Collective is designed to reduce that gap.

Built by operators, not theorists.

Cupping Collective has been developed through 20 years of work across specialty coffee sourcing, calibration and origin development.

Experience includes:

  • Director of Coffee & Social Impact at Pact Coffee
  • Development of direct trade sourcing, quality improvement and producer value development systems across 15+ origins
  • Cup of Excellence judging in El Salvador and Guatemala
  • Head Judge of the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros Land of Diversity competition in Colombia
  • Development of origin-led quality competitions in Colombia and the Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Coffee sourcing, logistics and quality management across international supply chains
  • Experience spanning origin sourcing, roasting, sensory evaluation and market-facing quality systems

A major focus throughout this work has been the identification of coffees with unrecognised market value and improving alignment between producers, quality and market demand.

The platform is grounded in the realities of how coffee is actually bought, evaluated and valued.
